Austin here, reporting in with a summer update – AND a new YouTube video. If you came out for our spring cleanup day, you remember the Bobcat trailer we borrowed to aid our efforts to clean trash out of the back field. The results were terrific, and for the next week AJ kept going, pulling out old boilers and chunks of concrete, and then gently regrading the eroded hillside.
Over the past few years, the hemlock in that back lot has gotten out of control. It’s a noxious weed: poisonous and hard to eradicate. We pulled a lot of it, giving us a good foundation to stay on top of it.
AJ also cleared out an overgrown juniper at the front corner of the property (pictured to the right). The sidewalks aren’t in great shape, but at least now you can see them. The juniper was so overgrown we weren’t even sure if there was a sidewalk! He left the stump, which looks like a Seussian bonsai.
The very last thing we did with the Bobcat was to demolish an addition to the back of the laundry house. It was in rough shape, so we knew that even though we hope to reuse the concrete foundation it was sitting on, the addition itself had to go.
This presented us with the perfect excuse to make another YouTube video. I think this is my favorite video we’ve released since the first one. Check it out and let me know what you think!
This has been a great summer for tours, and we’re grateful to everyone who has visited the building- whether it’s for a ghost or historic tours.
