We had such a good time at our last cleanup day that we are doing it again. Next Saturday, September 26th, we’ll gather at the building and keep chipping away at the endless ‘to-clean’ list! We’d love your help.
On Saturday, September 26th from 10-3 we’ll gather and give this place a good once-over. We’re particularly excited because this year we’re getting a new roof on the main building. A lot of our clean-up will focus on the debris from our constantly failing roof, something we won’t have to contend with once the new roof is in place!
If you’ve been following along since the beginning, you know that the first eighteen months of our efforts to stabilize the main building were focused on the roof. We had to jack up all four floors to make it safe to work on the roof, and then we put a new roof on half of the building.
We always knew this roof would be temporary. It bought us a good three years of less water in the building, but it’s failing right on schedule. Having a new roof on the entirety of the main building, installed by professionals with a warranty and everything, marks a major milestone. It’s hard to imagine a what it will be like to have a winter where we’re not preoccupied by how much water is getting in the building!
All that to say, we’re excited to clean up some areas that we’ve never gotten to- including places that have never been accessible to the tours like the nun’s quarters on the west side of the fourth floor. That will be particularly adventurous work, but there will also be projects for all skill and commitment levels.
